Location & Venue
The festival takes place at the Nürburgring in Nürburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, in the Eifel region of western Germany. The venue combines its motorsport facilities with large outdoor areas that are transformed into a major festival site during Rock am Ring.
The Nürburgring has a particularly strong connection with Rock am Ring because the festival has been part of its history since 1985. The first edition took place on 25–26 May 1985, when U2, Joe Cocker and Marius Müller-Westernhagen were among the performers and approximately 75,000 visitors attended.
Event History
Rock am Ring began in 1985 as a major music event at the Nürburgring and has since developed into one of Germany’s best-known rock festivals. Its long history has brought together major international artists, German acts and successive generations of festival audiences at the Eifel circuit.
The 2027 edition will mark the festival’s 42nd edition. According to the Nürburgring, the festival’s connection with the venue now spans more than four decades, making the event an established part of the Nürburgring’s annual calendar.
Getting to the Event
Visitors arriving by car should follow the official festival traffic and parking instructions rather than relying solely on standard navigation applications. The organisers recommend using the official NUNAV guidance system, which provides directions toward available parking areas during the festival period.
Train travellers can reach cities connected to the festival by shuttle services, including Cologne and Koblenz. Rock am Ring also provides city shuttle services from parts of North Rhine-Westphalia and Frankfurt, while daily connections to and from Koblenz are planned for 2027.
Where to Stay Nearby
Camping is the most integrated accommodation option for visitors who want to remain close to the festival grounds. The official camping programme includes general camping, green camping, power camping, car and tent camping, racetrack camping and premium accommodation options.
Visitors who prefer a hotel or guesthouse can stay in Nürburg and surrounding Eifel communities such as Adenau and other nearby towns. Because accommodation around the Nürburgring can become highly sought after during major events, visitors staying off-site should plan their accommodation and daily transport in advance.
Things to Do Before or After the Event
The Nürburgring area offers plenty to explore outside the festival itself, particularly for visitors interested in motorsport. The circuit complex includes attractions connected with the history of the Nürburgring, while the surrounding Eifel region provides opportunities to explore villages, countryside and scenic roads.
Visitors staying for additional days can also use the festival as a base for exploring the wider Rhineland-Palatinate region. The nearby towns and rural landscapes offer a quieter contrast to the busy festival grounds and can be incorporated into a longer Germany itinerary.
Restaurants & Dining Nearby
Food is widely available within the festival environment, making it possible to eat between performances without leaving the site. Visitors staying outside the festival grounds can also find restaurants, cafés and traditional German dining options in Nürburg, Adenau and surrounding Eifel communities.
For a festival weekend, it is useful to plan meals around the concert schedule, particularly during the busiest evening periods. Those staying in hotels or guesthouses should also check restaurant opening times in advance, as smaller local establishments may have limited hours outside peak periods.
Ticket Information
Rock am Ring 2027 is being sold as a full-weekend festival, with the festival ticket providing access to the concert area from 4 to 6 June. The official ticket information states that parking and camping require additional tickets or badges depending on the accommodation and vehicle option selected.
A range of camping products is available, including general camping, green camping, power camping, racetrack power camping, car and caravan options and experience camping. Visitors staying off-site and driving to the festival each day need a Weekend Parking Badge.
Demand for the 2027 edition has already been significant. The organisers reported on 22 September 2026 that 70,000 Rock am Ring weekend tickets had been sold, with additional acts still to be announced.
Tips Before You Go
Because Rock am Ring is a large outdoor festival, visitors should prepare for changing weather conditions and spend several days on their feet. Comfortable footwear, suitable clothing and protection from rain or sun can make a significant difference during the weekend.
Campers should also check the exact rules attached to their chosen camping ticket before travelling. Some camping areas allow vehicles beside accommodation while others separate parking from camping, and certain areas have specific vehicle-size restrictions.

The official Rock am Ring website provides the latest information about the 2027 lineup, tickets, camping, parking, travel arrangements, timetable and festival regulations.
